The Seeker Who Comes Home:
Campbell’s Hero’s Journey, the Bodhisattva Path,
and what I found at the end of a month of honest seeking.
If you had asked me at the start of this month what I was seeking, I would have given you an honest answer.
Success. Belonging. The witness of certain eyes. A mother who can no longer receive what I keep bringing home to her.
Those things are still true.
But after four weeks of sitting with it honestly — the patterns I named, the friend who kept me humble, the question of whether the seeking was devotion or disguise — what I find underneath all of it is something quieter.
Peace.
Not arrival. Not resolution. Not the end of the seeking.
Peace as a way of traveling. The difference between moving toward something and running from something.
This week’s piece closes the month with two maps of the same journey — Campbell’s hero who must return and offer what he found, and the Bodhisattva who turns back at the threshold of enlightenment to serve those still crossing.
Both say the same thing.
The seeking was never just for you.
And what you do with what you’ve found is the part that makes the whole journey complete.
